Hey guys! Whats goin on? I just had a couple of questions on the 450R..

How much more power does it have over the 400ex?

Can it be a decent trail/XC quad?

What would you rather have.. Kick or electric?

BTW.. can you guys post some pics of your 450(s)

450r is great on track or trail. although it really doesnt like to be lugged, it wants to run.

400ex to 450r comparison, night and day. the 450 revs quick and is very snappy, its a beast. the 400ex is more like a tractor, not that its slow or anything, its power delivery is smooth, you can lug it all day, it doesnt care. bulletproof but kinda outdated motor and preload adjust only front shocks.

if i was gonna get a 400, it probly would be a z400. better motor and suspension out of the crate, compared to the 400ex

The 450r is an awesome atv. It does not like to go slow. Sometimes i find myself in trouble on really rocky stuff cause the only way to go any slower is pull the clutch in and stop then i lose my momentum. This can be fixed with a smaller sprocket in the front but I haven't done it.

Like the above poster said the 400ex is very smooth. IMO the 450r works more like a 2 stroke ( with the stock pipe anyway ) you'll hit about half throttle and it feels like you just shifted down it just picks up and halls. I personanally love it.

My dad almost got me 400 but he wanted this to be the last quad he bought me cause im 15....so i convinced him that i would out grow the 400 to fast and he got me my 450. Plus the price difference is barely noticable here.

In other words 450 all the way!

Good points above.

Kicker over E-start every day of the week.

1 word...RELIABILITY.

yeah the R really does not like going slow. it took me a while to get used to that from my 300ex. Also, the power curve is much jumpyer than that of the 400ex. But thats mainly because its a race quad. If you are just trail riding with buddy's and you can get a used 400 i'd say get the 400, but def get a Z over the EX.

Even going from a 14 tooth to a 13tooth front sprocket you still need to work the clutch in tight spots. But all in all it can handle trails with the right technique. I originally wanted to buy a 400ex and was talked out of it for a 450r. Im glad i bought the 450r instead. I would have gotten so bored of the 400ex fast. Im even thinking about buying another 450r. (double the fun lol)
