In almost every case, a upgrading a stock cam to a more aggressive aftermarket cam will not increase an engine's required octane rating.

Generally speaking a cam with more overlap will allow the motor to run cooler. There are a few motors running around on these boards running towards 13:1 compression on pump gas just because the cam is running such a monster overlap that it aids in cooling.
