View Full Version : re-ground cams - are they worth buying?

Over here in Australia all American parts are very expensive (due to sh#t conversion rate). I can purchase a HRC re-grind cam though, for a reasonable price, but could it stuff my engine? I have my motor out at the shop now and am getting a 416 kit, Cam and port work. How will the HRC cam profile go with this set up using a 10.5:1 piston!

Be sure to hardface your rockers.

You really dont have too. I geuss it depends on what cam u get and what the builder sais. I got TC everything, didnt hardface the rockers, no springs, nothing. And when i just took it apart to re-ring it, there was no wear at all on anything!! And thats whith almost a year of racing and riding!!

I think when I get my TC XC Cam I am gonna just go ahead and get some TC Valve Springs too to be on the safe side.

As far as I know, nobody make a billet cam. All aftermarket cams are welded up and ground down. You should not need hardened rockers unless you get an aggressive cam. Now I was told with my WB track cam I would not need hardened rockers. After a year and a half of racing and riding, both my cam and rockers were shot. I changed oil quite often and used good oil. Personally I would either get your rockers hardened or cyro treated. ;)
