First of all, I am new to this site and I gotta say it is Awesome! There is no better place to find detailed information about my machine. Nice work people.

I put my 400EX back together, and take 'er for a spin. 'Runs great. take it back in and go to tighten the chain and I BREAK THE @#$%'n bearing holder! So,

My question is, does anyone know of a cheaper place to buy the bearing holder?
Servicehonda.com = $206.35
Powersportspro = $302.24

If there is nothing cheaper, I won't complain, $100 difference from PSP.com makes me happy enough..

Also, is there a "real" tool to get that job done better? (chain tightening)

For those who haven't yet, I would suggest trying servicehonda.com's interactive parts-wizz-gizzy through the remote desktop - it was really easy and handy.

Thanks!

just get an aftermarket one. They have wider bearings and a grease zerk and a lot cheaper.

I just broke mine too while trying to remove the bearings. Not exactly sure how I did it but I busted it good.

Call up Colby at C&D (sponsors) and see. What I've seen of his quotes to other guys and what he's done for me so far is as good as anyone else.

I like Bike Bandits online microfiche if I'm looking at something specific.

Burgard sells billet carriers for $150.00

I think they would also work on stock swingarms, besides there own swingarms, but I'm not positive.

Called Burgard, they said they will fit the stock swingarm. Looks nice for 150.00 :)

Alot of people have done this to there bearing carrier. Including myself. I would use big channel locks on stock carriers. I got a RAD for my 300ex off ebay for $120 bucks. 400ex one may be alil more not much though. And while your ordering a new aftermarket twin row carrier you might as well get a set of double wide bearings so you'll have them for in the future.

check these out.

i too bought a RAD carrier once with tapered bearings. i LOVE it. you have to keep an eye on it more than standard bearings, but it is definately stronger in all aspects. i bought it out of a catalog, but i don't remember who?
