I know theres going to be many vairable to my question but what is about the average number of mx only hours you can usually get on a 14:1 piston before a rebuild is needed. What about other compression ratios 13.75 13.5 13 12.5 12. Does anybody know.

i replaced my 13.5:1 after half a season of racing (2 races a month plus one practice per week for 3 months) and it really didn't need to be replaced so i don't know if that is the norm or the exception

The problem with high comp isnt the fatigue on the piston it self but on the crank and bearing. The more compresion you are running the higher rish you are running of breaking a crank. A good rule of thumb is how do you ride the bike if you arnt reving it and are using the power appropriately in the lower rmps then the 14.5.1 comp shouldnt be a problem last 35 hours.

I was at CP Pistons yesterday & saw a 13.75:1 standard bore piston that had 30 hours on it & I wouldn't have hesitated to put it back in the engine & run it some more! No skirt collapse, no scoring, no pin galling, no heat issues, no bad anything! Ray.

For optimum performance and reliabilty 10-15 hours if you it at the rev limiter and 20-25 for someone that runs more in the middle rpms. This will all depend on on maintence.:)
