I installed the #42 pilot jet that most everyone recommends. It starts fairly easily but, I have one question. I resently installed a DynoJet Kit and it recommended that I turn my fuel/air screw out 3 and a 1/2 turns. Now that I installed a larger pilot valve should I turn the fuel/air screw back in to 2 turns?

Probably. This might get you pointed in the right direction: http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=229923

You'll need to turn it back to about 1.5-2 turns out from lightly seated. Then turn it out until you get the highest idle and then back off just slightly(maybe an 1/8th turn in).

was the #42 just a tad longer than the stock #38?? curious because I bought a 42 and have not installed it because of the different length

They were the same exact length. The inside diameter was slightly larger. I bought it from www.jetsrus.com They are the same series as the stock pilot jet.

The stock pilot jet in a 400EX carb is a Series 26. The "series" is independent of the orifice size (38, 40, 42, etc.) Series 21 pilots are far more common but they are a little bit longer. They work just fine though in the EX.

I found that 2 and a 1/4 turns out on the fuel/air screw was the best setting for my altitude of 225 feet and modifications.
