I was wondering if anyone could help me. My friends and I are planning a trip to Little Sahara over fall break, and I was wondering if anyone could help me pick a good sprocket combo. I have a 02 400ex, WB e-series, K&N power kit, timing advance key, and 22" paddles. I want to be able to climb the dunes as well as possible. Any help would be great!

thanks for the response 2qk4u,
every one I talked to said that they run a 14 tooth front, so I went and bought one today. I also removed my choke and did some grinding inside the carb. I am trying to sqeeze what ever hp out of this thing I can, with out sqeezing my wallet. Like I said I am going with freinds to little sahara, most of them have 400's but one has a z400, and another has a banshee. I am not the type to eat everyones dust, and like it. Does anyone in here have any other ideas that wont set me back too far?

you can do what i did and for $120 you can get a stock bore 11:1 piston kit and it will wake your bike up. needless to say i have not been beat yet by and new z400. i love how it runs and for the money it was well worth it. I noticed a pretty big difference. any more questions just send them my way.

2qk4u,
are you running a xr400 head gasket, or a stock one. I have heard that the xr400 gasket is a little thinner, giving a little higher compression. I have also been looking at a hot cams stage 2 cam they are only 140.00 with no core charge. Maybe I should do both and not eat for a week or so:eek:

Easy there 2qk4u:D
Yellow machine I do have to admit 2qk4u's 400 does run very well for the mods he has done. My wifes 400Ex has the 14 tooth front sprocket on it also and it makes a good addition for the dunes.

Iam just running the stock head gasket. I would kinda like to get a different cam but not real sure yet. i hate to spend that much money and it not help any hardly. I guess i should do a little more research. Dads400ex i didnt mean nothing bad about what i said, just trying to give an example on how my bike ran with what i have done to it. Heck theres alot faster machines out there. Believe me I'm not trying to stur anything up. the way i see it as long as it runs decent and is dependable i'm happy:) :) :)
just by putting a 14 tooth on your bike will wake it up a decent amount too. that was the first thing i did. Dads400ex, so when we hitting Milford?

take care

I went with the PRM brand skid plate over the Pro Armor because it is a one piece skid compared the Pro Armor being a two piece, one for the swing arm and one for the rear shock plus it is about $30 cheaper.
Now I may hold off on the sprocket until some more come out, the one I can find is $18. plus shipping, Rockymountain has some or will have some for $6-$7. I need to call them Mon. and see when they are going to get them in.
I know I wish we could of made it to Sand fest but with the boy's having football games on Sat. it makes it rough to go anywhere for the weekend right now.
Yeah I will let you know when we do go to Milford.

Count me in on a trip to Milford. Sandfest was GRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAATTTTTTTT! Just to many people to feel safe, but lots of fun. The event should have been labled RAINFEST. Here are some pictures just to make you guys jelous even more so.

Oh yea, got me a Raptor now. I traded my 250R for a 01 Raptor with over $2000 in aftermarket parts. All it needs is some TLC. Can't wait to try it out.

First picture is of the 400ex and the Hi-Jumper sandrail we have.
