Long travel doesn't necc mean more wheel travel. Long travel is long "shock shaft" travel. It allows the shock builder to valve the shock more accurately. Sometimes you will gain slightly more travel, but that is usually more because the a-arm maker uses ball joints, king pins, or heim joints allow more travel rather than the shock actually allowing the additional travel.

Correct. You can also lower your quad with an LT setup because the bottom shock mounts are usually lowered by using a "gull wing" type of arm.

all that allows from my understanding is a longer shock, it has very little to do with allowing a lower ride height.

the gull wing is just so they can use a long shock, but still have the mount on the top of the a-arm. LT isnt worth it on the new 450's, for much less money, gthunder, or derisi can make the stock shocks work just as well, if not better

As I have heard one shock builder put it......if you can run a ST setup with maximum wheel travel for the specific type of riding that you do, why would you want to increase wheel travel!

Ride height is not dependent on the length of the shock!

chino is right, there is such thing as too much travel. travel goes one of two places, ride height or sag. too much of either is a bad thing
