I have a an '87 banshee that i bought about 4 months ago. I want to upgrade it to make it faster and make it handle better on the MX track. I would like to increase turning radius and would like to improve traction. I only want to spend around $1000. Below is a list of what is done to the quad, everything else is stock.

Cool head
Vito's pistons
Single K&N filter
Trinity racing Single carb kit
Nerf bars
Paul Turner Exhaust
Dirt Diggers Clutch
Works Front Shocks
Custom A-arms
Tusk Bars
Holeshot Tires

What size are your a-arms? +1,+1+1,+2,+2+1 ect?

I think you shoud get a shortened swingarm and get your rear shockj revalved. Thet will give you more traction and better handling
