Looks like you got it right. 13/38 is the stock sprocket size. Alot of people go with 14/38. That's what I'm doing soon.
If I were you, I would go with a package deal with sprockets and chain. You save a bunch.

I personally like that 14/36 setup...it lets you use your entire tranny, not just 2nd or 3rd thru 6th. This combo also gives you a great top end. I used this on my 250R that had only minor engine mods...such as Paul Turner Eliminator Pipe, 36mm PJ carb and an open air box...my motor was also bored to a 270.

Just so you know.....3 teeth down in the back equals 1 tooth up in the front. This way you can fine tune your gears like Laeger350RX is doing.

stock is 13/39 on 86-87,,,88-89 is 13/38
think of your sprockets like gears in a car
13/39 is 3.0 ,14/36 is 2.57 13/38 is 2.92
which really has you right in the middle of the board as far as gearing possabilities
what does your terrain cover
do you want tall or short gears

get a calculater and check your numbers again

if you call krause and tell them what you are running he will give you solid advice

i see you are buying his sprockets why dont you buy his chain then you run his complete set up and you have his advice and warranty to boot

i run 14/36 on my 330 and 13/39 on my 265 both his complete set up and have 3 seasons out of both i am a true and loyal customer to krause racing (sidewinder)

just my 2 cents

Do you really think I need a calculator or are you just being one of those people that tries to destroy a forum by making fun of someone and starting a string of long arguments back and forth???
That's what I thought it was.....sorry for upsetting you.

no Im 1 of those people that stops people from being misinformed
otherwise people may start walking around thinking they know when they clearly dont
what you said really made no sense
and since cincy250r is about to spend alot of money on a chain and sprocket combo , he should have the right info at his access
sorry to upset you

Just happen to be reading a magazine. October issue of QUAD.
Here is what the editor said in the "Frequently asked questions" section.
"Some rules of thumb: One tooth on the countershaft sprocket equals three teeth on the rear sprocket".
pimpt250r, I'm not arguing back and forth with you. I just want this guy and everyone else to know because this is some really helpfull info to know.

are you talkin chain lenth ,,,or your gear ratio,,
and we not argueing
we are gettin to the bottom of this subject

Alright cool. I really don't want to argue either. I was refering to the sprockets.
If you go up 1 in the front, It's the same as going up 3 in the back.
If you go down 1 in the front, it's the same as going down 3 in the back and vice versa.

i see what you mean 13/39 is 3.0 and 14 /42 is the same ,, you would just need a longer chain

Kirt13

Yup. By knowing this, you can save $$ buy going up 1 in the front instead of 3 in the back. Unless of course your front chain guard will not fit a bigger sprocket.

What they are doing is dividing the number of teeth on the rear sprocket by the number of teeth on the front sprocket. 39/13=3 38/13=2.92 etc

I run regina chains and sunstar front sprockets and CHEAP ***** magnum rear sprockets which are metal and have OUTLASTED all my other sprockets...

aluminum sprockets on quads just is not the ticket...

my friend has had the titatnium sprockets i have had tons of expensive sprockets

steel rears for me
