i believe the head gasket is thinner on the drz. some people put drz gaskets on their zs for more compression.

and zs have a reverse gear. to bad the drzs dont have one:cool:

will the exaust work off of a drz on a z400...would it be kinda like a aftermarket exaust...if it odes work then would it give you any advantages?

I don't think an exhaust would work. The frames and mounts for everything are totally different between the bike and quad.

Cams (and I'm pretty sure valve springs) are different.

The quad has less compression and a less aggressive cam.

would it be cheaper to put the bike parts in my quad to make it faster or shoud i go after market?

If your comfortable removing the head and cylinder yourself then going to the DRZ base gasket will provide a bump in compression for not much money. Beyond that, I wouldn't necessarily have my heart set on sticking with OEM parts.

I put the drz base gasket and valve springs. The gasket on the bike is 1 layer, quad is 3 layers. It gives you .9 compression points, i thinks its like 12.4 after the conversion? The valve springs in the bike are dual springs which are stiffer than the single springs on the quad. I put the drz springs in my Z because I added the rev box and didn't trust the weak stock springs. There are several companies out there that make conversion kits that come with everything you need gaskets, valve springs, heavy duty cam chain(must have)

Can you use the base gasket alone or do you need to put in the cam and or the valve springs? I am working on the Project Z bike and would like a little more umph. Who makes the kit and where can I get it from if I decide to go with everything.

No you can do just the gasket by itself if you want. Just get the gasket from your local dealer, the other parts I would try and get on ebay or www.z400central.com

This is where I got mine.
