i dont think so

yes it can be done.I heard the cases had to be split though but i havent seen it for myself.I may look into it later.I think it would be nice to have both. The stock 300ex starter doesnt really like 13 to 1 compression in cold weather:D

Use a 250x bottom end.

IF it can be done its not worth the time and effort, just use a 250X engine/bottom end.

Why so one can lose some displacement? To those informed know the 250x has a shorter stroker than the 300ex.Duhh..

i know you are very smart in motors, but your wording makes splitting the cases sound hard. I had to do it to replace a countershaft and it was acually quite easy.

This coming from someone who refuses to lengthen his storke LOL

I see your point though, I just personally might not do it because of the coast of machining, though I would like to see it done. They should have been made that way anyway...

I haven't dug into it myself.. but I beleive the 300ex crank is not setup to accept the 250x style kick start.

You'd be better off getting e 250x bottom end and stroking the crank.

The kick start would hook on the clutch basket, not on the crank.

And as for loosing CC's you just have to put the 300ex crank in the 250X and you won't lose displacement.

A 250X stroker crank is the same stroke as the 300EX stroked. Yet it would be nice to have both elec. and a kicker....has anyone here personally put a 300ex crank into a 250X?

Ahh the cranks are different. The 300ex has a ting gear for electric start.

Splitting cases can be a challenge for somebody that doesnt have much mechanical know-how.Most of them wouldnt know the crank gear on the 300ex is reverse threads unless they have a manual or have experience with them.Be careful we dont want 13yr 250ex riders thinkingthey can split their own motors..even though a few probably could.:D

well even with the electric starter motor, that would hook on the flywheel, not on the crank.

The 300ex crank is longer than the 250x crank. Also i think the 300ex uses larger diameter crank bearings,so...
But if one insisted im sure with some extensive machining they could make it work.;)

What do you mean the crank is longer? do you mean at hight of it as it sits? of from end to end?? Yeah, I'm pretty sure they use different main bearings

I like the 250ex kids comment, though splitting the cases is a pain...anyone else have trouble finding the right flywheel puller? it took me..... i think # 5 worked LMAO
I'll post the part # is anyone wants it

I think the flywheel side of the crank is longer than the 250x,A 350x axle works as a emergency flywheel remover from what i heard. So does a rear wheel axle from a 2004 ktm 250sx mx bike.I know that one does for sure;) I have since bought the necessary tool for the job.:D
