I recently got a great deal on a 2004 450r rolling chassis. Just wondering if anyone has put a 250r motor in one?

I remeber hearing about a guy wanting to do one that was a member of the site but I dont remeber if he did it or not..

That actually isnt a bad idea at all because it's basically a 2004 250r if you think about :p

Has anyone tried this yet ???

It looks like the motor would attach to the swingarm bolt better than a 400ex frame.

Plus the Rad mounts are already there....

I have seen one done, in pictures. There was a guy in England (I think) that built a 450R three wheeler and took the 250R engine and put it into the 450R quad he stole the engine out of.

It seems like it would be a simple swap, although that 250R engine looks tiny in the 450R chassis.

Man that looks MINT!!!!

I see the 250R motor still sits up high......so the swingarm pivot is still a bit higher than the stock 250R position.

I think the aftermarket companies.....like Walsh, Lonestar & Laeger should make a 450R geometry - 250R powered hybrid chassis.

That way ALL the parts - except the MOTOR - Are easily obtainable and are readily available.

my 2 cents

That's basically my HRE frame. Everything is 450R and 400ex except motor.

When I first called, Mike was making himself a Narrow front 450R frame and asked if I wanted that with just a 250R motor.

Who built that 450R? Or does anyone know where the build thread is if there is one?

Well son, what you've expressed here is merely a matter of opinion and not fact. You see, as humans, we all have different likes and dislikes, which make us all unique in our own special ways. Certain people will almost certainly enjoy things that you don't enjoy, and of course dislike things that you enjoy. Certainly you don't think that a company would build something that no one would like do you? Believe it or not, not everyone on this earth wants to ride a 25 year old chassis, and some actually love the ergonomics of machines other than the 250r, one of them being the 450r. For instance, i have a 250r powered 450r and love it more than my old 250r and more than the original 450r it used to be. It would be a pretty sad world if we were all 5'4", 150 pounds all wanted to drive the same machine on the same trail. Go figure....stupid humans eh?

Thats alright son, some people are meant to be followers, don't feel bad. And yes, you certainly are right that the more expensive the frame is sold for, the better it is. It dosn't have anything to do with marketing or consumer demand, nothing at all. Can you imagine how good the frames will be if they sell them for $20 000!! Wow, that would be so cool man!
