I just bought a 38 A/S carb and now the tube from the air box to the carb is too short to reach the carb. I know some of the people on the forum run the same carb, what have you all done to correct this problem, and could you post a picture?

thanks,

B

I had the same problem all i did was take the bolt out of the back of the air box that held it to the frame and there was enough play for it to slide forward just make sure the boots connecting to the carb are nice and tight

Never seen this happen with a stock TRX intake manifold, you sure the intakes not from a CR250R, cause they are shorter than the TRX manifold.

The rubber boots, airbox to carb and carb to reed cage shrink over time. I had the same problem until I got new Honda parts.

Neil,

This is Brandon from Texas. I don't know if you remember , but the intake and carb is on the motor I sent you. I am not sure whether its from a cr or not.

Man,,, I cant remember but a CR intake manifold will have a rubber piece that sticks into the reed cage like a stuffer. If you have a CR reed cage that piece on the manifold will fit but with a TRX reed cage it wont fit & will need cutting off. If you look & its been cut on the inside to remove the rubber it for sure is a CR manifold.

I believe I have the cr manifold. Is there any advantage to the cr manifold over the trx?

The CR reed cage & intake with the way they are made, it kinda directs the fuel flow more straight into the crankcase instead of at a angle.
The old TRX intake & reed is open on the inside & has a tendency to wad the fuel flow up in the right side of the crankcase.
If the engines intake system was made perfect, straight in, the fuel flow would go straight into where the rod is right in the center, then you would have even amounts of fuel on each side to go up throught the transfer ports.

The CR intake is shorter than the ol TRX intake & why your having that problem.
You would be better off to somehow make the filter boot come to the carb than useing that reed spacer.
In all my test, a reed spacer is good for softening the hit when the engine jumps on the pipe on a top end ported engine.
It can kinda of have the same effects when you switch over to the CR ignition system, the lite flywheel makes the engine more pipey.
