Are the 250x and 300ex the same almost? I know the 300ex has a bigger bore and stroke but are the frames and everything else the same? If so can I use 300ex aftermarket and stock on my 250x?

yes outside of the motor ive found everyting to be the same cept for certain year 250x which is my year used a diff front hub which makes the bolt pattern of the front wheel diff from 300ex but I bought 300ex hubs to correct it. everything else is teh same

So I'm not crazy! :D I thought someone had swapped front hubs on me, good to know. You know what yr. they changed?
And just to keep things clear the 250X and 300EX do have the same bore size. The only displacement change is the stroke. Though they have the same bore you can NOT use the same piston since the pin sizes differ.
But they are the same all but some engine components and wiring.
Suspension, chassis, motor mounts, fenders, cyl. head, jug all the same.

I think it was the 87 that had the oddball front bolt pattern.

The bore is the same (74mm). The stroke is different between the 250x/300ex. 57.3mm vs. 65.5mm.

CDI's are different (due to e-start/kick). I beleive the 250x has a decompression valve? (not sure). Battery & wiring harness is obviously different. Cranks are obviously different. Other than that they are 90% the same.

Oh okay. that would make sense, they had a red frame right?

I agree with bwamos 100%, and yes they do have decompression that gives the head cover an extra hole.

mine has the oddball front hubs I believe is 87 and it had the gray frame but I bought it used so not sure what year just was told 87

Yeah it most likely is an 87. I was wrong the 88 had a red frame.

yes it is the 87 ...i have one .....pain in the rear to get rims for the front....

And 91's, but I'm pretty sure they went to grey for 1992

moto250X_rider-thanks I sppriciate that....though I would go on eBay and get some 300EX hubs.

Blue250X-you are right. I have a red 91 and a grey 92...that's how I tell the difference between them all. ;)
