Ok so I am moving dirt from my house to my friends house. We dont have a trailer and its to far to wheelbarrow. I was thinking filling garbage cans with dirt. That way you can move a lot at one time. Just put the garbage can on a skate board and walk it over there. Does anyone have any better suggestions?

those big yardwaste containers work good. if the distance between you guys is grass then you can lay out a tarp, put dirt on it, and pull or have a truck pull it.

or just shovel it into the back of a pickup

The only pickup we have access to is a brandnew tundra, and I don't think his dad wants us to put dirt into it. The tarp idea is good, the only thing is that it is road between us.:(

just use two tarps, they will get a lil torn up but it will work

Dirt can be very heavy. The skate board idea sounds good but put the can on it before you start filling. Move it every once in awhile so you know it's still movable:) Depending on the can you may only get half full or so before the board snaps or sags too much.

:macho x's 10? i would use the garbage cans because thats too far to drag anything. or fill garbage cans and have his dad put them in the back of the truck.

Also, moving it over the road will be alot easier than over grass. I don't think a tarp will work in that situation, plywood would though...

there will be about 30-40 feet we have to move it on the grass just to get it to the road, then the rest of the way will be on pavement. I'm not to worried about the skateboard bending because I got it at walmart for like $5:chinese: But it's pretty sturdy so I think it will be fine. Any other suggestions? Thanks for the help everyone BTW.

Can you make a tow behind sled type of thing out of plywood and pull it with your quad. A full sheet with say, a 1x6 for side would move a lot of dirt at one time and the quad should be able to pull it if you can find some way to keep the front of it up a little but so it doesn't catch.

Tried it, and it broke on the second time. Also tried putting sides on a wagon and a wheel broke off from to much weight.:o Think I am just going to try the garbage can thing tomorrow, I'll let you guys know how it works.

use a spoon, or just get a neighbours tractor with a bucket

A dolly or hand truck may work better than the skate board.

A 3 1/2 gallon bucket of loose soil weighs about 40#. THe garbage can is at least 20 gallons but probably closer to 40 or even 60 gallons. It gets heavy real fast:p @ 40 gallons it's 450+ pounds. Good Luck!:)

Well, its pouring rain today, and we are supposed to get 1-2 inches of snow tonight, so I probably wont get anything done today. I know what you mean by how heavy dirt can be:o

Take dads pickup.
Put tarp in it to line bed.
Put dirt in it.
Drive to place.
Slid whole tarp out of bed.
No harm to truck.

Just don't get to much dirt at one time.. My brother did that and just tried to pull it out and it wasn't going nowhere.. They had to shovel a ton of it out before they even thought about sliding it out.

I still don't think he wants his brand new truck to go through this though, it's his baby

if hes worried about dirt in the back of his pick-up then why didnt he buy a car then. people dont use trucks for what they are designed for.
