Taping Into Selinoid ( Winch )

I have a 2002 polaris magnum 325 4x4 I would like to tap into the selinoid for power to the black & red wires for winch HOOK UP can I test it and how can I . I have tester ....that will only power up when key is on ? correct any help would be really good thank you Anthony

Does anyone know if you hook it up to the selinoid can the neg. black go to the batt and the (hot ) red posi to the selinoid that would only make it hot when the key is turned to the on position I dont know and if anyone thinks ths sounds ok post!:chinese:

I never hooked up a winch before but why hook into the slenoid? I would just run your power off of the Battery

By doing that it will be hot ( juced up ) all the time if someone accidentely hit the switch it would activate the winch ......... by hooing up to the selinoid it would only power up when the key is turned on ....I THINK just not sure if the black to the batt and the red to the selinoid is OK ....... I going to do it today in like 8 or 9 hrs so I would love some feedback on this thank you very much Anthony

What solenoid are you talking about? If you are talking about the starter solenoid it will only be active when starting the machine. If that is the case you wouldn't want to tap into that. Do you have another solenoid that came with the winch kit? If that is the case it would be fine to hook up a red wire from the battery to one side of the solenoid and then run another red wire from the other side of the solenoid to the winch. Then hook the solenoid to a switched power to activate the solenoid when the key is turned on. Then run the black wire to ground on the frame somewhere or the battery.

Yes it is the started selinoid I guess i cant use that? huh my mistake ok next step....

I not sure how your trying to hook it up, but mine has both power wires hooked to the battery and another wire hooked to something else so it only workes with the key on. Kinda like the remote wire on an amplifyer

ok I just put a switch inline ( rocker type 20 amps. max. ) that should be ok right? tried to look at winch manuel to see if that was ok but no info in that topic ......its good i buried it under the seat looks good
