Cody finally asked to go see a doctor as he has been having bad pains in his left knee. The exam and xrays showed he had a severe sprain and torn all the ligaments surrounding the upper part of the knee.

We are pretty sure he did this in August, but hasnt complained to much. The boys got a trampoline last week and the doc figures this aggrivated it badly (ya think...lol) She was concerned because he has a lot of scar tissue and for someone his age thats not a good thing.

6 weeks of a brace and no use of his knee and a follow up, ice and ibuprofin is all thats called for.

He better figure something out, I will have his new quad done in a week or so:chinese:

pappy, u knew he was gonna get hurt sooner or later, but 6 wks is cake work.

tell him i hope he feels better, and dont rush an injury like this, my dads got two blown knees and he cant run at all any more.

try being in a cast for 9 months, and 6 months of physical therapy after that, yup over a year of no riding for me.

Oh I am glad it wasnt much much worse. I know the day he did it, it was hotter then all get out and he hit that kicker before the table on the barn track and said his knee locked up and hurt like a *****. I think I even reported in a thread of that weekend that he did not even remember clearing the jump, but we chalked it up to the heat.

He has to go for a MRI to check on the scar tissue, but I dont forsee any surprises.

Don't let him be macho and live with the pain, make sure he heals up completely before using it. Once there's joint damage it may be there for the rest of your life if it's not taken care of.

He's too young and has too much going for him;)

Maybe he can take over your administration postion in the shop for a few weeks:p

Man, that stinks! JOEX is right, don't let him ride before he heals up, even though I know he wants to. That's actually why I took my quad to the shop. If it's not here, I won't be able to ride it.:ermm:

Good luck with the knee Codeman. Take it easy and don't overdo it. I know from experience how bad a knee can get.:o I just had total knee replacement done on both knees. Just follow the docs orders and you should be good as new in no time.

Aye, one thing I learned over the years.. was to let it heal fully, and then some. The 2nd or 3rd aggrivation takes a LOT longer to go away.

Sorry to hear your hurt Cody.... Please take the time and let it heal right... Ant is still having pain in his elbow and wrist but won't let me take him to the doc till after the series is over 2 more to go .. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND LISTEN TO WHAT THE DOC'S SAY !!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you guys so much for all your support!:macho

If the x-rays prove no further damage, I'll be able to remove my brace sometime in December. Hopefully Pappy can keep me off the quad until then:devil:

Thanks,
Cody Hill.

your reading this from someone who has had surgery on both knees and when i was 18 and had my first surgery the doctor said i had the worst case of arthritis for someone my age he has ever seen. since then i have blown out both knees several times. i am now dealing with both knees needing to be cleaned up and needing to have both ACL'S replaced. infact i blew out my left one in a race two weeks ago and i was wearing an EVS brace,( i have a brace for both knees) but my knees are so bad now, that even the brace cant stop me from injuring my knees. i cant imagine what the outcome would be if i didnt wear my braces. all i can recomend is TREAT YOUR KNEES LIKE YOUR HEAD, BUY THE BEST BRACES THAT MONEY CAN BUY even at a young age, cause you dont want to be like me and be 32 years old and walk around on 70 year old knees...thats what the doctor compared my knees to.

just my 2 cents

Hope he gets well soon. Also let him know to let it heal. I was one of the ppl that took the brace off too soon or kept riding and now at 21 years old I am already paying the consicenses (sp?)

Cody,

I just had my 6th surgery on my knee in October. Let it heal MORE than enough. Make sure you keep up on the exercise and therapy, it is worth it. If possible have another Dr. check the MRI to make sure all is well. Knee braces are well worth the money, some insurance will even pay for them if a Dr. writes a prescription. Good Luck!!!!!

not to change the subject or anything but I was told just the other day that bee stings are good for relieving arthritis pains . I thought it was a joke but the guy telling me this was serious as a heart attack .

Pappy I would not take him to an open mri if I were you. Definetley got to a closed mri. Unfortuantley I had atleast 2 mris on my ankle when I tore 2 out of 3 ligaments in it. We went to an open mri and they told us it looked the same but it was still hurting bad so I got a closed mri at upmc and they could clesrly tell what was wrong with it and then I had to have surgery to repair it. I guess the open mris do not take good enough pictures or whatever compared to the closed so I would highly recommend a closed mri from past experince.

It appears the scar tissue may indeed be a cyst developing off the torn ligamnets. A trip to the specialist is in 2 weeks:(

I had really bad scare tissue build up when I broke my shoulder. I have 90% rotation back, I should have gotten back 100% back but the dang insurance stop paying for my physical therapy.:(

That doesn't sound good. I know I had a lot of scar tissue in my knees after my surgery but they told me that it was basically because I had healed very quickly. Hopefully that's the case with Cody. Best of luck to him.

Hopefully the specialist can figure out what it really is . Either way , some physiotherapy might do some good afterwards . I have a ton of scar tissue in my knee and I went from having almost no flexibilty , back to almost 100% in a matter of a few months thanks to physio !!!!:)
