Ok so i have no lights on my bike and plan on doing som night riding very soon so i went to advance auto and bought a set of 55w foglights. I ran them straignt off my battery and im wondering if that was teh right thing to do? Am i going to drain my battery if we ride for any length of time at night or will it stay charged from teh 400's electrical system?

aslong as you're not running over 70watts.. cause both stock lights are 35watts each.. you can get some trailtech lights for a good price..

Don't mean to ask a stupid question but...

You did wire them with a switch of some sort, correct?

I'd hope so :)

Yes they came with a switch, i toyed with that idea for a shiel abotu just leaving two pig tails and plug them together when i want lights but ended up going with a switch.

They lights a 55w each so 110w total, am i still going to be fine?

i would not recommend more then 70watts of power.. unless you get a new stator or get your rewound.. you can try to run one at a time.. personally I would not run that 110watts.. you're putting alot of work on your battery..

ricky stator and trialtech do rewinds, there is a local guy who has been rewinding electric motors and stators for 40 years and he did a stator for an old trx300 fourtrax we had and we ran the stock lights and two offroad truck lights on the rack with zero problems

your setup right now is pulling to much on your battery and you either need to swithc to jsut one or get a different set of lights

A long time ago i went trail riding and the stock lights made the battory go dead.

My head light i use is a 50 watt high beam car head light with no charging system yet.

This is how to rewind the XR stator but it should be the similar for the TRX400EX. I know a stock XR stators is only putting out 80w. I do not know what the 400EX stator is stock.

Good Luck
