I have a 300ex with a 14 tooth front sprocket and a 36 tooth rear sprocket. I am having problems with the chain, it is either too short, or too long. I have 2 chains, both within a link of each other and one is too long and the other too short, no matter how much I adjust the carrier. Just wondering if anyone else had this same problem.
Thanks
Jeff

I had that problem when i went 13/36. I had to run a half link till my chain streched some then I removed it. I am planning on going 14/38 next time because I have a good 38t rear to use. I should be about the same as the 13/36. I would like to go with a 250 r rear brake and the smallest rear sprocket I could get just to get more ground clearance.

How does a half link work and where would I get one? Sounds like this is the way to go, either that or switch back to a 38 tooth rear. I have a buddy who has the stock set up and his doesn't seem to be much slower than mine. Thanks

I run 14/36 and i've never had a problem with not getting the right length. I started with an 86 link chain and put the chain on to determine how many links I needed to take off.

I have an 86 link chain and it is too long, it sags and pops off, even with my carrier at its tightest. I think that the half link is going to be my only option because an 84 link is one link shy of being right. Are running a stock carrier or an aftermarket? Maybe this would make the difference, I don't see how, but thats all I can figure. I'm gonna call around this week and see if I can't find a half link.
Thanks for the help, if anyone else has anything useful, let me know.
Thanks
Jeff

Yep I have an aftermaket twin row carrier. I don't see why your having trouble with this. I'm running the same exact setup as you are. All I had to do is take some links out of an 86 length chains. Maybe your not getting the carrier at its shortiest length.

I checked the carrier, it is definatley at its forward most point. What size chain are you using?
Thanks
Jeff
the odd sprocket sizes cause problems if your chain is new, like 13/36, 14/35. etc. i had that problem when i tried 14/35 from 14/34.
