well i think i might have my parents talked into leting me race xc. i need to know the baics of what i need. like what size sproket. i know i need skids. i have a swinger skid and im in a fab shop for half a day at school and i can probably make a chassis skid and aarm skids out of thick arse aluminum. but what should i do for wheels tires and suspension.

for suspension you should go +1, long travel a-arms with long travel shocks. and if you want to change you axle too then go a +1or 2 axle. for wheels and tires i would go maxxis razr2's/itp gncc/itp holeshot HD on .190 douglas

IMO do not get .190 wheels.(bend easily) keep stock or go with hipers. a good 6 ply tire and a 14t sprockrt and do not forget about a prm summit bumper(for the slow guy in front of you:D ) suspension is $$$ if you have it get +1 arms, if not just get some front shocks and revalve your rear.

the basics... I would try to make your machine as reliable as you can.. beadlocks.. loctite just about everything.. I like running 22inch tires in the back and 23 in the front.. a good bumper.. handguards.. i got T9 rims and they bend easily.. OEM are alot better then T9 and are lighter..

Helps a tremendous amount in the cold weather too and bocks your hands from getting smacked from small tree branches and the like also.

what do u guys think about wheels spacers,..i dont have the money for +1 a-arms

spacers are cheaper then they are hard to steer with.. and if you jump I would not recommend some certain spacers.. (the ones that are seperate studs) you can get the same affect with offset wheels..

A-arms and axle are not a must for xc racing, espcially if your on a budget. Some good suspension will make a huge difference in your cornering ability even on a stock setup so that is def. where i would start. Biggest improvement you can make to any atv. I have a decent setup on mine for woods riding...

Elka thriple rate piggyback fronts
PRM Baja front bumper
PRM Rear skid
ITP XCRs 6 Ply rears
Maxxis Razar II fronts (in the spring)
Axis Dual Rate rear shock
Fly Racing Bars
Pro Design Killswith

Thats just a basic setup but works really well for me espically with not alot of money to spend. I don't have problems keeping up with anyone in the woods. Remeber this is all on stock rims, stock a-arms and axle. The only other thing i want to add right now is a steering stabilizer and dropped a tooth on the front sprocket to give it more bottom end power. Some handguards would be nice too...
