If you had to choose from all stock tires which ones would you choose for a 250X/300EX with stock size wheels? You can choose from honda, yamaha, kawasaki, or suzuki, 250's, 400's, 450's, etc... one stipulation is that the rears need to be 20". The type of riding would be all around, trail, dirt, some mud and sand pits. No glamis or desert riding. I'm not particularly fond of the 400EX rear tires. You can choose front tires from one quad and rear tires from another too as long as they would work well together. Remember no aftermarket tires. I can get ultrafantastic deals on stock tires from a friend but not as good of deals on aftermarket. This is for my son's 250X which should be done very soon.

My vote for the best stock rears are the 400EX's. You shouldn't discount them. They're better than what's on the Z400 or 450R.

The Arctic Cat dvx250 has kenda klaws on it stock. I'd say those are the best.

Hands down 400ex/250R ohtsu's. They are one of the best rear tires OEM ever IMO. However being that your putting them on a 250X were you thinking of doing a squared off profile tire like the 400ex tire and most aftermarket or are you looking at doing a balloon tire like those found OEM on the 250x/300ex?

Well hes looking for a 20 inch tires, so that would rule out just about every balloon tire. The kendas that come on the DVX, and the razr's from the predator would automaticaly be ruled out. Even though they come on a stock quad, they are still aftermarket tires. IMO I would spend a little more and get Razr 1's You can find them new for around 50 or 60 dollars a tire. When I got my razr MX's from C&D it cost me 52 dollars a tire for each of the 4 tires, plus shipping. If you must go with a stock tire, I would go with stock 400ex, or 450r tires.

Thanks for everyones input. My buddy has a Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki dealership and he can get better deals for me on the stock tires for those brands then he can for aftermarket tires. Apparently the discount is better or something? I gave him a list of tire choices and he's going to get me prices for them this week so we can decide. He's also getting me prices on Razr's. I'll let everyone know in this thread what we end up getting.

The new 06' Yamaha YFZ 450. Hands down. I've driven two of them with the stock tires (less then 5 hrs on each) and they are much better then the ones that came with my Honda. I took my Honda out once and had a new set of Maxxis Razr's on that week.

Probably because he owns/runs a dealership. ;)

It's hella expensive for us.. but do you really think they pay that much? ;)

I understand that, but OEM tires are still more expensive.

They're only more expensive because you're paying dealer prices. In the past when I've gotten parts from him the prices are less then half of Service Honda prices. So if you have an $80 tire (just throwing out a number for example) my price would probably be around $35 to $37.

Ended up getting the stock Honda 450R tires. All 4 Ohtsu Radials for $160 including tax.

Rear tires..........

We got the front tires mounted very easily but the rear tires are a real pain in the neck. One bead goes over the rim pretty well but the second one is not cooperating. The rear wheels are aftermarket and have more of a sharp edge then the stock wheels do.

On tires that I have trouble getting over the bead, be-it atv, car/pick-up,or truck, I'll use some WD-40 to slip it over the rim. A tip is to only spray half the way around, otherwise it wants to slip. After they're on, I'll liberally spray the beads with it again and they seat easier without having to use near the psi. I hate it when they pop on, very dangerous.

I was using soapy water. Are there no ill side effects to using WD-40? I didn't want to use that because I was afraid that the tires could slip on the rims while riding. Or the oil possibly deteriorating the rubber.

Have you tried the tie-down strap method? Haven't tried myself but heard it works well.

Wrap a tie-down strap around the center of the tire and cinch it down, I don't know how much is good. Then air it up.

yes the tie down method works well if you have the tire on the rim but cannot get the beads to seat enough to get air into the tire. The problem I'm having is I cannot get the tire onto the rim. I have one bead on and cannot get the other one on. I have not tried the WD-40 yet but I will. It's too late tonight and I'm "tired" now.

I understand now, a little 'slow' here sometimes:p

Maybe warm up the tire a bit in some hot water?
