Just wondering if you can cut a head gasket to fit a big bore, or if it would blow. If you can not does anyone know where I could find a top end gasket kit for an 86mm big bore for the 250X/300EX?

I haven't done any work on bored engines, but have done a little work on stock ones. I would think you would be able to use the stock gasket. The piston won't go all the way up to the head in its stroke so it's not like the piston will hit it. If it's not possible to use it, it should be for some other reason than that. Again I'm not a pro at this, so take this post for what it's worth. I may be wrong so someone else feel free to chime in.

Call C&D Racing, they probably have it.

A stock gasket on a bigbore won't work. The material inside the cylinder, although it probably wouldn't hit the piston would throw off the combustion of the gas. It would ignite, then hit the edges of the gasket and you'd most likely loose some power. If a peice of the gasket came apart inside it would also get bound in your valves and cause some problems. I doubt you could cut a stock one exact, but I have no experience or ever heard of anyone do it, so it could be possible I guess.
Do a google search for Cometic gaskets and check them out. They should have what you need.

yeah i definately would not cut it. it would be hard to get all of the metal shavings and paint out from inbetween the gaskets.

FST has one, its .045" compressed. cometic can custom make you one any thickness.

FST has the 86mm? Would I want a different thickness? I don't know what stock is. Thanks guys.
