I have a blaster and I want to paint the motor, if I pull the motor and paint it, when I'm reinstalling the motor, do I need to use the torque specs? I really hate that kinda thing unless it's absolutly neccessary, I usually have good judgment on that stuff.
P.S I'm not racin this thing, I'm not gonna be worried as long as it stays together, and doesn't destroy anything.

i would not do it without the torque specs and a torque wrench but many are not as particular about things.

Don't be foolish. Get new gaskets and torque everything down to specs. Then after riding for a little bit go back and torque everything to make sure it's staying there. No matter how good you think you are you should always use torque specs, even on the smaller stuff that doesn't seem important. I have busted off so many bolts that I thought I could tighten down myself, not knowing how little torque they really need.

I think hes talking about pulling the motor.. not tearing it apart.
I beleive he's just thinking of the motor mounts, intake boot, and exhaust flange.

Oh okay, he'll still need gaskets for the intake if he plans on taking that off for the paint job. I also would make sure to torque down the engine mounts.

my $0.02
engine mounts and things of that sort i wouldnt worry about TQ, especially if you dont have a TQ wrench. anything to do with tearing down the engine i would, keeps you from twisting off little 8mm bolts, squishing gaskets too much and breaking aluminum parts and such.
the upkeep on a torque wrench can be kind of a headache also. they dont stay good forever, they need to be re calibrated every so often depending on amount of usage. here we have to get ours calibrated every 6 months or if they get dropped from a height of 2 feet or more.

I guess I'm just one of those people that likes to do everything right the first time.

good for you, I just don't have a torque wrench at the moment, and I don't want to buy one unless I need it.

Everyone who ever plans on wrenching on anything should always have a torque wrench. It's one of the first tools you should buy, go out and get one.
