View Full Version : cylinder head removal???

alright im removing the head on my 300ex and have the 4 head nuts off is there any thing else i need to take off all i can see is these allen head bolts but there really really tight

it may be on there tight. you may need to tap it with a rubber mallet to get it broke free. make sure there is no small screws on the outside of the cylinder too. i am not too familiar with the 300ex.

Those two allen bolts need to come out, they hold the head on to the jug. I assume you are using a regular allen wrench. get a socket and ratchet or even a breaker bar and they will come right off easy.
ASSEMBLY-when you go to put it all back together, you'll need a torque wrench to torque them to 29 foot lbs. and you must follow the correct pattern as well.
The nuts come 1st--top left, bottom right, bottom left, top right. then the allen bolts--the bottom 1st.

ya thanx i'm buddy's with this kid and he didn't have any socket allens so I'm going to bring 1 over today thanx for the help;)

isn't there also 2 small 8mm head bolts on the outside, over on headpipe side of engine

ya those bolts are for the cylinder i was trying to take off the head
