is it bad when u hit it and what exactly happens??? is it just like a rev limiter in a car??? sorry for the NEW B ?

please help :( sorry if its a dumb ?. i know what they do but..... would like to know if the motor just bounces off of it or what happens, things like that. explain in detail haha :D

if you just bounce off of it, no big deal, that's the reason that it's there, to save to engine from revving higher,,,,i've hit mine several times, no biggie,,,later

The rev limiter is designed to prevent you from revving your engine too high. I don't know the RPM limit on the stock limiter, but it basically limits you to a certain RPM. Like you can only go to 6000 RPM's. If you you get an aftermarket box with a higher limit you may be able to go higher in the RPM range, but doing this could result in engine damage. The limiter actually reads your RPM's similar to a tach and starts decreasing the level of spark once you hit the limit.

i short shift my 400 cuz im afraid to over rev it. thnks for the replies and i just wanted to make sure if i hit it that it doesnt do any damage.

the stock rev limiter is 9300 rpm's

WOW... 9300. I would have never expected it to be that high.

Don't be afraid to open her up! It's a honda...honda makes the best motors out. Keep regular maintanence..oil..etc..and you could run that wide open all day long...:D
