Options for widening 250EX

I've been searching/reading up on the Diamond J widening kit, but opinions are mixed. Some people like it, some are dead set on trashing it. Then they go on to mention alternatives, but never get specific.

If I wanted to get my 250EX to have the same wide track as the Diamond J 250EX kit, but wanted to do it the way it's detractors say it should be done instead, what would I get? Please be specific. List parts/pics if possible. TIA

I was looking at those today also, but what else needs to be bought?

And I'm sure someone is going to complain about them too, right? If you're gunna go with +2 a-arms (I suggest herrmann) I would also look into some work's shocks.
