ok, here is the only 04/05 480cc that i've seen.. kinda of a laugh at the power this 480cc is making, but here you are... many ppl are doing more with only 450cc, but that'll be another topic... LOL!!!

I am thinking of going to 480cc and go with stroker crank and stock cylinder. Is this best for motocross and the engine is midly tuned with hrc cam etc.Are Falicon the best or would recommend some elses crank?

if your running motocross watch your size. The predator 500 has 450 kitrs to downsize for racing the 450cc class. Im not sure if they have open classes like cross country races do.

what do you think of the athena 480 Chad? I was also looking at a powroll 470 that seems interesting.

Boring it out really doesn't seem as beneficial as going with a standard bore high compression.

Also the TRX motor is already oversquare so stroking it IMO seems like the better route if you were to do anything...

just put a high compression 480 in mine...seems to have gobs of torque. Dont know if its from the big bore or the compression, but i havnet got a chance to open her up yet. But so far its pretty snotty.

Wait until mine hits the dyno in a couple weeks. 477 at 14.5:1, ported, HC2 and a couple of other little things. You can't expect a 30 cc increase to make a ton of power over a stock bore. Besides, peak power isn't the whole story anyway. A WIIIDDDEEE powerband is always a better choice for the average rider.

Mine's not gonna run with a stroker, but then again, I didn't spend a ton on the motor either...

It's pretty ridiculous to compare a $900 480 running a mild HotCam 2 to a $3500 stroker build running a much wilder cam. Completely different animals.

You might as well use a 70 hp stock bore build that Dasa has as a comparison too... Except that the Dasa build would cost a lot more than $3500..... That is, if you wanted to ask which is better, stock bore, BB or stroker and use dyno runs to prove your point.

Im not disagreeing, I just think the motor responds better to stroking.

Sounds like yours should be a pretty big monster!! Have you looked at any other cams or are you set on the HCS2?

Also where have you seen stock bore 70HP 450Rs? I would love to see a dyno on that!:eek2:

Dan Lamey has built a 68 or 69hp stock bore 450R.

I don't disagree with the stroker making more power, but it has a huge cost differential. That's all I'm pointing out.

The comparison is only valid if costs, reliability and maintenance are included. If you look at the Dasa 70 hp stock bore, you have a very maintenance intensive machine with a custom designed cylinder head. You would be amazed at what a pro race motor like that would cost. Great power, but expensive... That's just the way it is. Same could be said for the stroker discussed above. I don't think there is any arguing that a 63 hp stroker trx is going to put more stress on a lot of parts...

Power is great, but at some point you have to wonder if modding a 450 is worth it, or should you just ante up and go with a 700 or something like that.
