Set the crank to dead zero, there is a mark on the left side. There are small holes in one side of the cam, point them straight up and slide on the timing chain and gear and you should be set. Its been a while since I've worked on one of these so you might want to check with some of the other guys on there too.

OK see I thought it was like the 300ex and 250x so is dead zero the piston being all the way up or all the way down or in between? because on my 300 i can set the piston all the way up and cam mark up and it is in time next question is my my mark for the bottom gear on the right side where the timing chain connects up on the bottom or on the rigt side where the stator is?

Top dead center, and mark should be on the left side on flywheel.

Timing is the same on all single cyl. engines. Just do the same as the 250X/300EX. Top dead center with the piston and cam lobes @ 4 and 8 o'clock with marks on the gear flush with the head.
