I just bought a temp gauge and was wondering what is considered to be too hot to be running my bike? What temp. does a bike over heat? I ran at 175 degrees all weekend...90 degrees outside in the dunes about a 20 min ride.

I just bought a water temp gauge too. I would expect the water temp to be cooler than the actual engine temp. I have a laser gun and plan to use that to see what the differences are after different styles of riding (trails, wot, etc)

my bikes tend to run about 180-190 without any problems, going slow they get up to about 220..

We see as high as 220 230 in 90 degree heat 4500 feet going slow, once we open them up 190 -200 this is in the big dunes at st anthonys Idaho. Riding them hard keeps them cooler. We have tried 3 different radiators and the stock ones work better than any of the aftermarket ones we have tried These temps are on 310 powervalves and 330 non pv. We don't run gagues on the stock cyl's in our group but i bet they are similar They run about 10 degrees cooler at Glamis at similar oat. Strait water and 25 75 coolant have been tried with no real difference Water wetter doesn't do much either. We monitor our temps closely since we are on the edge. Also never tow someone with a 2 stroke you will be fixing it shortly it will go off the scale in less than 1 minute. Go get a 4 stroke, don't ask us how we know!!

ive got an esr guage, and i rarely run over 150... i was down at buttercup the past 2 weekends, and i may have gotten up to 160...

and thats including shooting the hill many times in a row between shutting it off... and riding it pretty dang hard...

i run engine ice for coolant...

i got it around 190-200 this summer in az, but that was in 1st going up a really rocky hill that was long and slow...

Thanks for the replies....I have an 86 ported 285, milled head, compression says 150 but I hope my comp. tester is bad cause I know thats way low for my setup, running 110 leaded vp gas, water wetter, two inline coolers and stock radiator. I had always thought my bike ran hot but apparently not. Sorry not trying to ryme. It's nice to be able to check once in awhile now.
