Just wondering how long you racers are going between tranny oil changes? I am planning on running a synthetic or Rottella T oil in there if that helps.

I don't race, but if I did I would change it every time.

If you are racing, then change both sides everytime after a race. If you are just doing rec. riding then you should change both sides about every 3-5 rides or about 5-6 hours. It might sound like overkill, but oil is cheap insurance on protecting your motors internals.

I change mine after everyother race or play ride, I thought that synthetic oil was bad for clutches?

I change mine after every race or a longer ride.

man I thought that the tranny oil was lasting longer than the crank oil. ALright, I guess that I will add that to my list of things to do after each race....lol.

I change my tranny oil every other oil change. So, my tranny oil gets changed every 30 hours (+/- 1 hour). But....I don't race, I trail ride :).

My tranny oil is usually way more dirty than my motor.

I think in the owners manual it recommends using HP4 so the right synthetic must be ok.

Yep, I can race two classes, 4 motos and my engine oil will still look new but the trans oil looks dirty as hell. I change my trans oil every ride and my motor oil every two or three.

Syntheic is great in the trans side as long as it does not have MOLEY in it. Moley is super slick stuff and will stick to your clutch and make it slip. That why Honda makes 2 types of syntheic oil.
HP4 is without moley and that what you put in the Trans side and HP4M is with Moley and that what you use in the Engine side

Unless your pro I honestly dont see the benefit of changing your oil after every race. To me it seems the oil doesn't even have enough time to break down. I use klotz 10-40 synthetic on the motor side and after a race its still red and looks just as good as when I put it in. Honestly how long is one race? I know I get a practice and two motos and its not even 30 mins of ride time. Seems crazy to me especially the cost of some of the oils. I think if your paying that much for an oil it should last a little longer and protect better. I do however change the tranny oil every time I change the engine oil. I think the tranny takes more abuse than the motor does.

I agree with you. Besides the owners manual says 100 hours or 600 miles. I'm changing between 10-20 hours.

i change mine every 3-6 races/practices. i dont see the point in changing your oil after every race/ride.
