im doing a rebuild on this bike because of a bad shift drum....and found the piston looking like this...does anyone know what would cause the piston to look like this?

i would asume with all the vertical scratch marks all around the piston and cylinder, that it just got too hot

Looked like not enough lubrication to me. I would get an oil injection block off kit and run mixed gas.

i didnt think of that, but if that quad has an oil injector, its probably the culprit. i would block it off

Yes get a block off plate kit for your blaster. I stated out racing blasters and thats one thing I did to mine. The oil injection can be known for going out and ruining your engine. Its better to be safe than sorry.

Did you get that oil injector block off kit? Seriously, it's known to be a huge problem with the Blaster. If you don't want your new piston looking like your old one I'd definately spend the few bucks to pick one up and start mixing your gas.

it alive...................notice the type of filter setup this bike have.......i think this had something to do with that cylinder damage.

i told him to get an outterwear 4 it

that is a sign of low compression due to a worn piston or bad rings. that is burned oil from blow by. ur top end was a bit overdue for a rebuild

when ever you guys are rebuilding your engins and just have to replace the piston and rings dont forget to HONE out your cylinder its just like new then.
