Has anyone used 87 or 89 pump gas and noticed ticking sounds in the top end? It started making a ticking sound when you blip the gas it ticks a little then stops as it starts to idle. It has a full tank of 87, and never started doing it until I put that in it.

Then most deff. is the gas. Go to the next one up, if it still does it then again move up to 91 octane. Shouldnt have a problem then. If you do, then you could always get some race gas.

Most of the time I run 94. Sometimes 94 CAM2 mix. This is the first time its seen 87, and just wanted to make sure that is a common issue when running a lower grade

if you dont have any motor work youre fine with the 87, in fact its whats Polaris recommends. Some other quads require 91 but the pred only has stock 10.5 to 1 and doesnt require anything higher.

may be a valve rattle or cam chain tensioner

i believe katch is correct. unless u have motor work done 87 octane should be suffice. try dropping some booster in it and see if the noise goes away. but i would def be wary of the cam chain ticking more. cuz if that goes then u know what happens. by the way katch where you at in laurel i work down that way. any riding areas near you.

The noise is still there even with new gas. But to me it sounds more like a small header leak. It sounds like its more up near the headers, but i can't feel any air hitting my hand when i put it up there. I am going to pull the headers off and check the copper gaskets. I did check the cam chain and it was tight, checked the valves, they were good.

just make sure when you put them on you do equal turns so the crush gasket seats properly. I used some grease, just enough, to hold them in place, itll burn off anyways.
