Extended stock steering stem?

Anyone ever try to extend/lengthen a stock steering stem. Would cutting the stem and inserting a filler tube and welding around it work?

Yeah, just cut out & replace the whole tube the lenght you want, not realy much to doing it. Tig weld it though.
