Sometimes when I'm in running my quad hard, it misses the shift between 1st and 2nd. Maybe 4/10 times. I heard that running a differnt oil might clear this up. As of right now im using Yamalube 10W30, but i plan on switching to a synthetic, most likely amsoil. Will running a 20W050 help my shifts, if so will it have any negative effects on my engine.

Thanks

You can do what I do and not use 1st gear at all:D I run 15/38 gearing w/ 18" rears and have no use for 1st at all.

im running different gearing, but i agree with you... i hardly ever use first gear. unless its a really really tight track.

i was told by a dealer that the yamalube 10/30 takes out clutches in the 06 yfz's

basically i run alot of gncc type riding. Even though i usually dont have to shift down to 1st all the time, i still use a fair amount. I seem to be using it more now that i put a new set of Razr II's. on, they just seem to bog the quad down a little. Anyway i dont really want to change my gearing, iss there anyone who can help me with this question..??

The first thing I would check is if you have the correct amount of freeplay in your cluth lever. Yfz are known for wanting to go in to neutral though.
