get some razr 2s all around on itp bajas. I raced yesterday with them and didnt have a problem. Also i would suggest a arms skids and underbody skid plates, also you might need some handguards.

the stock tires will slow you down when there is no air in them.

yes they will take away very little power, but you will gain lots of reliability and its a 2 hour race.
but what hp you lose with the extra weight you will gain in traction and be faster. and the 450r has more power than u can use most of the time any way.

you need
good tires , skids, rebuilt shocks/ aftermarket shocks, kill switch, dampener. get all that before you do any motor mods!!
and you need to be able to jog for at least 2 hours with out stopping.
because with endurance racing the endurance of the rider and machine is #1.

well i think i am in shape ...i play football for parkwood high school and practice is pretty long..but i may be wrong i will have to go try to ride hard as i can in my woods for 2-3 hours no stop and see if i can inprove my times..... ok so if i get razer 2's will i still be able to jump and stuff and not hold me back to bad? i mean not on a track but like no higher than 10 feet and i may hold off on the shocks for a bit it rides alright right now ...when i get money should i keep it at stock witdh or +1 or what?

and what about the irazers are they any good?

GT thunder
they have the best XC rebuilds but others will say XXX, any are better than stock.
but GT does extensive XC testing.

Suspension, Suspension, Suspension! (the smother your ride the faster you can go and will not ware you at as much)

Steering Dampner (I run Denton rebuildable, got spare money go with elka or precision)

Good tires, your choice (I run Razor2 and love them)

Good wheels to take the abuse ( I run ITP BAJA up front and ITP bead locks on the back. If you got the extra cash go with HIPER)

Flexx Bars (not needed but work great)

Hand Guards/Mud Guards (pretty much need these to keep your grips some what clean in the muddy races, I run CYCRA with MSR elephant ears)

Nerfs ( I use them some dont, up to you)

HRC Kit ( for a little more power)

You will probably need a longer steering stem for your hight. I am 5'10 and like my bars high.

Good strong bumper (I run a proarmor but would also recomend PRM Summit)

Swingarm and frame skid. (I dont run any on the arms they just get tore off)

Camel Back for water

Kill switch (I run the ProArmor one)

MO-EX-RIDER

kill switch (you will hit a tree and be ejected)
strong bumper-prm summit IMO
camel back
dampner(stick style will work fine)
6 ply tires
skidplates
and the biggest thing - Endurance+Using Your Head

then when you get more$$$
get suspension/hipers/better dampner/motor work

you need good tires, I run HDs rear and GNCC fronts with Tireballs. Don't waste your money on stick style dampner and get a Precision or W.E.R. Skid plates, I run AC frame and Pro Tect swingarm (it's stainless steel:devil: ) suspension is very important and I run Axis LT with +.5 a-arms and 4+1 offset Hipers, I had rebuilds then switched to Axis is its a night and day difference and I think suspension is the biggest thing thats helped me out. killswitch incase you crash. That's all I can think of right now I'm sure everyones covered the basics:blah:

Don't listen to the people who say get new rims, pipe, filter first. Majority of people can't use all of the power of a stock 450 in the woods let alone one with performance mods with no suspension work. Those are the things you get last after suspension and protective parts. If you really want to improve your times do your suspension work first because that is step 1 no matter what others will say. Also a steering stabilizer is almost a must if you are racing in the woods. Get a good Precision, GPR or W.E.R one if you have the extra cash. For tires I am biased towards Maxxis and have had great success using the razr's razr II and iRazr in the rear. Your best bet is using a Razr II in the front in either a 21 or 22 inch. Also get a full aluminum chassis skid. The stock swingarm skid should be fine for now unless you run in nasty rocks. Keep the stock bars until you bend them but get some good handguards and some good comfortable grips. Also a gripper seat cover does wonders in mud races.

I also wouldn't get an aftermarket filter, the stock one is the best if you want your motor to last.

honda4life72
10-31-2006, 03:40 PM
yea i was planing on runing the stock filter with a kand n air filter lid and outerwear

i am gunna have to hold on shocks till i get a bumper and nerfs and heel guards and tires..should i turn my stock ones all the way down or what?

honda4life72
10-31-2006, 04:07 PM
can you tell that big or differnece with the long travel front end? i was thinkin bought just geting standard size

DJJ450r
10-31-2006, 04:10 PM
I can't stand AC heelgaurds I had them and I couldn't roll my foot back enough, and no my foot never got ate by my tire:blah: The benefit of nerfs in XC is to keep your back tire from hitting trees, some people like nets some don't. My nerfs are lower than stock which is more comfortable for me because im tall but they do drag a little bit in creek sections and what not. Next season I'm puttin stock pegs back on with derisi footpeg extenders and these custom made nerfs, the benefit of these nerfs is they stick out past the rear tire more so your back tire never touches trees:macho

DJJ450r
10-31-2006, 04:22 PM
Yes I plan on selling my AC nerfs to help pay for my new ones, and the paint does chip pretty easy, especially when you race in rocky races, like every race in Missouri:blah: Them nerfs with no nets are only $70 too:D

honda4life72
10-31-2006, 04:23 PM

=I think tusk nerfs are like $130 or something:confused: and the ones without nets that I posted are $70-$80 idk he might of raised the price, a local guy in Missouri makes them. And the only thing bent on my nerfs are the tabs for the nets from hitting rocks:p
