It was about 8 months old and the axle bearings went out. I was riding at a track n wanted to do a few more laps before i left.. Carrier was trashed.. 2-3 months later at breezewood i landed the uphill and it made a screeching noise. I pulled off and went home. There went my RAD $150 carrier. So i bought another stock carrier and brake disc hub. Hopefully it lasts a bit longer this time..

im thinking the 450r's jsut have that flaw.....because everyone that has one they have went out at least once and you guys nothing against them though i love my 450 its got the power and the suspension and everything i think that you would need to ride.. thats the only problem about them i think...

I have had my 04 450r since june 1st 04. And I take mine in water, mud ,snow and I had to replace the brake side twice. Rocky Mt sells a bearing kit for under 40 bucks for 3 bearing and two seals. thats under 10 bucks each for a bearing. I still have two good spare bearings and one good seal. At this rate I can ride for over 2 more years for under 40 bucks. I don't see any flaw, just someone complaning about maintaning thier quad.
And I only heard bad thing about pivot works, I have never used them.

I blew my seal @ breezewood in Sept. & the carrier was shot. Got the new billet carrier & anti fade nut $425 installed it & all is OK. bought my stuff from East Coast. I never did maintence on that , only greased the chain. I know now. Mines on 04. I think my chain loosen up quicker now. I always power wash mine & start out w/ a full tank of gas & the correct air pressure.

I have 04 450r that I ride alot and I have never replaced mine yet and I don't have any play in them yet. I don't ride in water and mud very often so maybe that's why. Are you guys running your chain to tight?

Mine isn't to tight that i know of I set it to the specs in my book. Well if you haven't had any problems thats great but I'm sure its time to take it apart & re grease it. Thats what you should do to ensure it doesn't cost you the $425.

what brand of bearings are you guys using to replace them with?? Just curious. I know anytime I replaced bearings in a stock carrier, I used Honda bearings. They are definitely more money, but I've never had the problems you guys are talking about.

for over 2 years now i have only changed my bearing once.

well after the stock ones went out i toke the bearing carrier out to. i put it the lath and got it all line up so i could lath out the side that only had one bearing in it. well i just lathed it out enough so i could get a second bearing on that side. so i am running four bearings in my stock bearing carrier. i have not had a problem with them sence then.

i think you guys are right...maintance is the key...but do u think you would have to worry about taht going out more on a 450 than liek a 400 or anyother wheeler???

I ran my stock bearing for a little over 8 months. In creeks 90% of the time I ride and it sees a pressure washer alot, now I try not to spray directly at the axle seals. And for the guys that dont know I wiegh 365 pounds and I do get it off the ground. It was my brake side bearing that went bad (the side with just one bearing). For a replacement I found an aftermarket billitt carrier complete with bearings and seals for $130 to my door. They are not a site sponser so pm if you want the address or read my sig. I have 7 months on the new carrier no problems yet. This to me is a normal Honda bearing wear. My 87 250X did the samething and my 88 250R did also but not as bad, and not at all after I modified the stock carrier to use JP racing double row bearing. When I bought my 450R I had already planned to change the axle bearings once a year from past experience.
