has anyone had any problems using silicone instead of a base gasket such as the silicone pluging up the oil passages in the head . im thinking of doing this to increase the sqish clearance of the piston and just want to know if anyones had problems? thanks.

i have done it. it works fine as long as you make sure not to plug any of the oil holes.

don't use rtv silicone. use hondabond or yamabond, use a small paintbrush it spreads real thin, you won't have any trouble. good luck.

yeah i have done it many times (where the cylinder meets the cases) on a 400ex. we have not had any problem to this day. by the way used hondabond.
