I have a bone stock 05 450r (for now). I mainly ride ocotillo, CA or glamis. I have noticed that 1st gear is a little tall espicially while crusing through the hard dirt & rock of ocotillo. Is a 13t front sprocket the best way to battle that, and if so what kind of performance am i going to lose while runing at high rpms through the sand in glamis?

Thats the thing man, 13t is great for trails, rocks, mx, but at the dunes it felt like I woulda been better off putting my 14t back on. My other buddy felt the same way about his

well while the 13t is an improvement for the rediculuosly high first gear its still not that great from 1 to 10 id give it a 6, instead i say bump up a tooth in the back sprocket because theres more working ground to get the ride you want and it wont wear your chain out.

I believe he means 39. Which is one up from stock.

I have a 39 on mine and I mostly dune ride. Works way better, the 13 tooth was lame. The good news is a 39 will fit on your bike with the stock chain as well with ease.
I run 20" paddles so a 13 was way to drastic, unless you way 265lbs!!!!!!

I have not even looked at the back sprocket, will it be easily changed out?

The 13 sucks on the 04-05, it dogs down the quad. When I tryed it, I never stop shifting. And was always looking for a 6th gear.

I have 20" Holeshot HD's and the 13t works perfect for that combination probably because those tires are pretty heavy!

i changed the front and the rear sprockets.front 13 and rear 40.
it helped a little bit,but it changed the power curve of the complete motor.i really didn't care for that too much.now i ride mx mostly.i went with a 13 in front and a stock for rear.i was concerned with the low end thou.it was stalling and chugging to much.so i went with a full hmf exhaust and that fixed my problem.
