the last couple days my quad has been running weird and i dont know why. when i go to start it up from being cold it backfires and smokes alittle bit untill i ride it around untill it gets warmed up then it stops I want to know why it's doing this? would it be possible that my valves need a tune up cus i havent done that yet sense i bought the bike. I need some answers please and thanks.

try adjusting the valves and maybe do valve seals for the smoking part. the backfiring indicates a lean condition which could be present cuz of cold weather. if it is colder than normal, then id say ur running a little on the lean side...nothing to be worried about

no it's not running lean in any way I ajusted the A/F screw so its alittle on the rich side. So what else is there.

Might need to richen the main. As for the smoking, replace the valve seals.

no i havent put in a 42 pilot jet yet but i'm thinkin i should, i guess i'll have to go to the honda dealer pretty soon. thanks Mechanixx for your help along with everyone. But what if i put in the 42 pilot jet and it still does the same thing then what?

What color is the smoke?
EDIT not sure what the dealer will charge you for the jet but you can get it from Jets (http://www.jetsrus.com/main_page.htm) probley cheaper :devil:

Sounds like your smoke is just from it bieng cold out.

but the smoke goes away after it is warmed up

It's just condensation built up in the pipe and the quad's gonna smoke until it's all dried out from the heat.

thats what i was thinking and my boy told me. from after i wash it. the water just chills in the pipe.

ya it always happens even if i don't wash it. it is normal for the first few minutes of warmup
