How could you hook up a tachometer (rpm gauge) up to a 250x?

A company called Sendec makes a small tachometer/hourmeter called the Tiny Tach. It's powered by an internal battery and you wrap the pickup wire around the plug wire. It's around $30. I've never had one so I can't vouch for the durability.
