ok im not tryin to be stupid or bash you or anything but why do some of you spend so much money on 300ex's and 250s and even 400s? it seems like sepnding that much money you could get a 450r and make it pretty fast too. is it the class or race? weight? size? im just curious. btw i have a 300ex too. i just want to know y spend that much. ive ridden 450s and it seems like my 300ex couldnt touch one if it was suiped up.

yes it has to do with age and class and things. money also. not everyone has a 450, nor does everyone need one. why should someone wait until theyre 16 or so to modify a quad? its fun and a great sport so start young. its a learning expierience and teaches everyone valuable skills they can take with them throughout the sport. i dont have a 450, i have a z400. i put money into it because i enjoy it and think its a great bike. its fun to make something your own and set it up to your likings. people arent fixing up their 300ex's to race 450's. theyre racing other 300ex's which kids enjoy modifying. theyre cheaper and offer young ones the same fun factor as a yfz would for you. its not what you ride that counts. all that matters is that they are having fun riding, wrenching, and enjoying the sport. you could look at it like this. why spend money on a mustang when you could buy a ferrari instead?

anyone can buy a fast 450r or yfz. buy a 300ex or a mojave or somthing and mod it and make it your own. you will never see a modded mid sized quad quite like your own.

yeah I had a build up over the past year. I invested thousands. Then I asked myself "Is it really worth it" and I said "HELL YEAH!" its fun having a quad that is nothing like anyone elses. Now I just bought a 450r to start modding once I get her paid off. Heres what I started with.

i run a z400 and a blaster...no offense to anyone but i would take my blaster over my z400 anyday just because its smaller doesn't mean its less fun. i love my blaster because its set up to my liking and i put all the wrench time in to make it

maybe some people dont want full out race quads, and like the size, and geomotr of the smaller quads

think of it this way

every one in the world(i know a little exaggerated) has a "souped up 450"

but what you NEVER see racing is the recon's,blaster's,mojave's etc

and heck, who needs 450cc when a 250cc will do the same thing??

^^ so true. i have a 86 lt250r and im goin to be racing it and it will be the only one out there. i have a 300ex too. it got 6000 in it and once i was 16 and i raced my dads z400 wich is the funnest quad i have riden up to now. but i still have to yet ride my 250 because the motor is getting a good going threw.

well i was just curious. i see why some people would now. especially young kids. im 16 and 6'2" so the 300ex is kinda small. i still have a blast but i didnt see a need to make it fast when i could get the bigger (more comfortable in my case) 450R for a difference of 2g's if i sell the 300ex. thats exhaust, wheels, tires, and suspension. but i guess if there are classes for 300exs and stuff then there is a reason. i have never seen a racing 300 til i came on this website.

i know what ur felling. im 6'0" and i had to race my 300ex untill i was 16.i put a custom +3 stering stem on it and im using it as a practice quad now so i still need to find a way to get the seat up higher with foam or something like that. the ltr250 is much beter in every departement size and power wise. i bout it for $475 so i can make my $ back on it no matter what i deside to do, sell it to get a z400 or keep it, prolly keeping it.

Some people that is just what they learn to ride. I am almost 18 and my first atv was a warrior:D :D :D Which I think almost everyone has had at one time. Anways the only reason why I am setting it up for xc is because I can race in the 2-3-4 class.

I built my 300 up just because I bought it new and if I sold it I would've lost tons of money. So I decided to mod it out so I can pass it on to my son in a year or so. Plus it's a fun quad even if it isn't the fastest out there. I bet I have somewhere around $2000-$3000 in mods alone plus the original price of the quad. Even though it isn't the latest and greatest it'll still take me places that put a smile on my face.:D

I bought my 300ex before the 400ex was out. When the 400ex came out.. I built it up to compete in the MHSC.

Since then the 400's have gotten faster, and the 450r's are out.

I wouldn't do it now. But back then it was a good investment since 400ex's were still expensive and the 300 was paid off. Also the 400ex didn't have reverse back then. ;)

I haven't changed it since 2000, just maintained it. (Except upgrading the carb)

While the 300ex may not be the fastest or best handling scoot out its still a fun machine, even stock.I started modding mine because i like to see just how much power i can get out of it doing ALL my own work except pressing cranks. Not to mention theres a sense of satisfaction smoking bigger quads with just a "lil 300ex".I can go anywhere and do anything a 450 can do.Plus 300ex's are cheap and easy to work on.Just because its air cooled doesnt mean it cant be fast.I dont put money into it hoping i'll get a return, thats what my 401k is for.:D I put a small amount of money into it because i enjoy it,think about it,if one didnt put money into his/her quad they would just waste it on something else, its not like most of us are smart and SAVE every penny we can,at least i dont:D May as well mod the quad..

One of a kind and smoke 90 % of stock atvs and a good many moded ones too. Its all bout pride. Im 30 years and have built and raced some very fast motorcycles and atvs and cars but I really enjoy my 300ex. Its is one of the best all around trail riding atvs ever produced. Thats why. Where can you buy one like this.

Because the Honda 450R doesn't come in Yellow.

LOL! Mainly I don't need a 450R. I'm just putting around with the boy on his Desert Cat 90. Once he gets older he will inherit the 400EX as I am sure it will be in mint condition and then I'll get something else....like a new 400EX. :D

You ought to make sticker thats says that. Thats funny. I know how feels to smoke the monster quads. I gave a stock Raptor 660 a run for his money two weeks ago on the drag strip. I blew his mind. He thought that there was something wrong with his quad. I just told him nope I just have all the right things done to mine.:D

Yeah people are quick to discredit a 300ex.Thats cool though, let'em keep sleepin on the "lil'300".;)
Why buy a 450 and have to keep reshimming the valves all the time in addition to increased costs of upkeep? The original question was why?I say why not mod a 300ex when most people that buy Lt front ends (on their 450s)and have thousands of dollars in suspension and still cant win in the woodsman class on the local level.Because its fun thats why.;)

why spend money on a 300ex?
because for 600.00 i bought the first one(someone put the case for the starter backwards, causing it to spin the wrong way) and my daughter loves it.
Tomorrow Im picking up another 97 that sat injust enough of hurricane katrinas water to freeze up the front brakes, for 100.00
This trike runs strong, just needs brakes and plastics.

Is it worth it? to watch my daughter smile after she rides all day, hell yes!!!
here is the 600.00 bike she rides..since I got it I put on 400ex shocks, seat cover and rear fender , replaced the tires and a few lil nic-nac items

aint nothing wrong with that:) I picked up a 300ex for $300.The back shock was blown out, battery was dead so i had no idea if itran or not.About $150 bucks or so for a new piston and odds and ends i had her running.Sold her to a guy i work with for $700:D

i bought my 400ex so i could show some stupid punk that just because his daddy bought him a 450r doesnt mean that hes the baddest kid on the block. and i didnt spend thousands of dollars on mods i just bought the right ones. i bought a second hand 400ex for 4200 (can) and ive only spent about 500 bucks half of which went to repairs and plastics.

I have a modded 2002 300ex i love this thing so much its gotten me out of a lot of tough situations. But im 18 now and im a lil big for it at 6'3" 235 lbs and its hard to get rid of it knowing how much fun and time ive spent on it. I just out grew it fast lol and it wouldnt be a big step up getting a 400 cuz my 300 can keep up with them around the track any day so a 450 i think i would be comfortable on or even the bigger quads like kfx700 or raptor 700r but if i was still small i would keep it in a heartbeat but owell The fact of it is its riding and i enjoy it no matter what atv ur on lol besides a 90cc

i think its all on how you ride, i have a blaster and i just trail and put around nd i live to ride thtamx tracks, buts its so small and lite and its easy to whip it around. and you and put alot od $h!t on them too, every one is different and i live to pit a different 2-stroke motor in it so people thin that its a 200 air cooled but is really a KTM 200 liquied cooled(i havent dont that yet)
