it's pointless to put an outwear on, you might as well leave the lid on if you are riding in muddy and water. Otherwise get a K&n with an outerwear and leave the airbox lid on, it will breathe better like that and still be safe

If your gunna ride in mud leave the airbox on and get a foam filter. I don't even run a outwear. No mud ever gets in there

i run a uni filter with no airbox lid and an outerwears. great setup for me since i run in the woods mostly. magic racing sells them, about 12 bucks i think.

not sure why the other guy is saying its pointless, it draws so much more air that way:confused:

Cut the lid like the 04-05 450R HRC lid, and get an outerwears air box cover to go over the lid with foam filter. We run this setup on my 450R,my friends 250R and my cousins 400EX and we take are quads in lots of water and mud. And it keeps sticks, leaves, mud ,water, rocks out off the box.

I don't wanna cut the lid because if I ever want to put the lid back on, I won't have much of one :blah: . Thanks YFZ450Ridr

New lid from Service honda is 10-13 bucks for a 400ex.
