I'm trying to help my friend reassemble his 660 and we can't figure out which way the coutershaft nut is supposed to go on. One side is flat and the other has a recess - presumably to allow space for the splines. So, does it go on with the recess facing the engine, or the recess facing out? I'm thinkng that it faces inward and the flat side faces out.

Anyone?

Don't know about the 660 but on the 700, the flat side goes out. I assume its likely the same for the 660.

The recessed side goes in. It fits over the splines and holds the locking washer in place.

Thx. That's what made sense.

I put it on that way last night and it's nice to be sure.

What sux is that I couldn't find an online microfiche that details the countershaft section. Anyone know of one?
