Recently i have been seriously getting into the sport of atv'ing. As of now ive been putting around on a 250 4x4 arctic cat. But this spring il be selling and purchasing a new quad . I want something with minimal maintenance and maximum power , at somewhat affordable price , after my research i have narrowed my choices down to a honda 400 ex and a Raptor 660. here are two deals to compare , which is better and why? the 400ex (http://www.unclehenrys.com/CLASSIFIEDS/Search/ExhibitDetail.aspx?ExhibitID=-2136757719&ishistoricsearch=N&ReturnPage=%2fClassifieds%2fSearch%2fResults.aspx% 3fsearchid%3d13468036%26searchresultindex%3d0%26is historicsearch%3dN%26maxrows%3d40%23-2136757719)

the raptor (http://www.unclehenrys.com/CLASSIFIEDS/Search/ExhibitDetail.aspx?ExhibitID=-2136734937&ishistoricsearch=N&ReturnPage=%2fClassifieds%2fSearch%2fResults.aspx% 3fsearchid%3d13468036%26searchresultindex%3d1%26is historicsearch%3dN%26maxrows%3d40%23-2136734937)

Okay. Glad to hear someone else ask the same question as me. I have recently bought a 04 raptor that needs work and have a 400ex. Once I get the raptor running and ride it I will let you know which it better.

The raptor is faster ofcourse because of the larger engine, but in the woods that will make no difference, i can keep up or beat 450's and raptors on the trails... and the raptos handling stock is not near as nice as the 400's... but if you drag race or run in the open alot like in the dunes, the raptor will be superior...

Hey Smity...I'm in Maine actually and I've got a 400ex and a Raptor 350 Im looking to sell...if you're interested let me know. The 400 has quite a bit into it and the 350 is mostly stock.

It was pretty awesome clicking those links and seeing uncle henrys come up, heh. Every Thursday I grab one religiously, never miss it.

Where exactly is Richmond? Im in Castine at the Maritime Academy, its about 45 minutes from Bangor. I wouldnt mind driving out to meet you somewhere either, or if you end up going with a different bike we should meet up sometime and go for a ride. We've got a couple really nice places here and theres an absolutely amazing pit at the east end of the Stud Mill Road (if you dont know where that is, its just north of Old Town), along with the Stud Mill itself...but hey, hit me back either way about the quads. My email is emeier@mma.edu and my AIM Screen name is SLRico. Talk to you soon.

When my 400ex was a 400ex it would walk all over the raptor and stuck with it in road drags and even would win some drags and i only had a pipe.

The 400ex is better. From a reliability standpoint it can't be beat. It has good handling and decent suspension. Also, when you get bored of the power, spend a few $$ on the engine and it will rip.

i agree, and the raptor is geared too high for the trails IMO. it is more tippy (really tippy) and the ex handles much better. with just a pipe u will be able to keep up with the rappy in open fields. the 400ex is better

i own both..... well kinda my dad bought a raptor cuz i was beatin the crap outta him with my ex when he has a 250x lol but through trails and on our track my 400 was just so much faster b/c it could handle so much better but he would always get me when we were wide open. we raced once after i did my motor and there was no contest. i would take my 440 even when it was a 400 ne day over the raptor

You are delusional.....

I have had both. The EX is more reliable, and handles better in the trails than a Raptor.

I can take my Raptor down the tightest, most technical trails that West Virginia has to offer wit no trouble. So it CAN be done.

If you are trying to suggest that ONLY apiped EX will beat a Raptor in a drag, you need to take your meds. I have drag raced like, 20 different EX's in various states of tune (they are VERY popular around here) and have never even came close to loosing.

If you race a Raptor with ONLYT a piped EX and even hang close, whoever was riding the Raptor needs to pull in the clutch and switch to second gear....:D

If you're going to ride trails, buy the 400. It's more reliable than the raptor, and it's not liquid cooled. That was a big selling point for me, when I'm 30 miles from my truck in the middle of a trail, a radiator is just something else that might break. No piped 400ex is going to beat a raptor in a drag race, from 3rd gear to top end it's not even close. However, if you ride trails or race small tracks, the 400 will hang with 'em.

I ride a 05 400ex and love it I do alot of trail riding so its great. My brother has a 05 660 and he likes it alot but like he said if I were to do it all over again id buy a 400ex.Well see if he feels that way when we goto the dunes the first time  Anyways ill have to agree with I think it was kurts post the raptor is very TIPPY ive ridden my brothers alot and on hill climbs that thing will scare the s$@@ out of you.My two cents worth.
EDIT as far as a piped 400ex beating a raptor LMAO was the raptor sitting on its axle when you did this?

400ex...definitely more reliable. As for the Raptor being faster, give me a break, I barely ever get into 5th on my 400ex as it is. If I had a quicker quad I wouldnt go any faster anyway. So for you, especially riding up here in Maine, I'd say 400ex all the way. (Not to mention they look 100x cooler than Raptors) :)
