I just adjusted my valves and my exhaust valves were at .006 and .007 . I was wondering what clearance is too much and when does it start ticking or damaging something.

What kind of cam do you have? If its stock then adjust them according to your manual.

If its a Stage II then the Intake is .13 and the exhaust/out is .15
(that is if all stage II's are the same) I thougth they were.

Also, don't mix up inches and mm.

.13mm = .005"
.15mm = .006"

All Hotcam cams for the 400EX are .005" and .006". Stock would be .004" and .005". The intakes are always the smaller clearance.

To the OP, .006 and .007 on you exhaust valves would be a little loose for the stock cam and OK for a Hotcam. A few thousandths too loose isn't likely to cause any harm. You want them to be the correct spec, but too loose is better than too tight. Valves that get close to zero clearance can cause catostrophic engine failure.

stock clearances are .004" for the intake valves and .005" for the exhaust valves. i would not go looser than the recommended clearances.
