View Full Version : changing the oil on the 400ex

i have a 02 400ex, and im wondering how do you change the oil on it. since it has that extra tank and everything. i had a 300ex, so i know how to change oil, but not with this extra tank... can't someone please inform me on how to do it, and how much oil goes in. 10w40 right?

no prob just glad to see that you actually want to do maintenance on your bike and not ride it w/o doin maintenance and think it will last forever.lol

I was changing the oil on my trx400 with my son and didn't know about the holding tank drain plug. We let the oil out of the engine, replaced the bolt and then started puting oil in the oil tank. Needless to say it didn't take much oil and my son and I were stumped.:confused:

So we came to this site.:D

We read the article posted above and were able to do it right.

One thing the article did not mention was that the oil does not drip down into the engine when you put oil in the oil tank. I had to put the oil filler/dipstick in and crank the starter afew times. Maybe to some of you this seems obvious but it wasn't to me my first time.
