My brain is always coming up with ideas, but you all know it takes money to make money. So heres the idea. Why did no one ever come up with a water cooled jug conversion the that we could just bolt right up to our 400's. doesn't seem like it would be that hard. what does everyone think. I'd buy one.

I always wonderd about that back in the day when I was runing my 400 motor.

but there would be alot mor to it. there needs to be a water pump, radiator, and the list goes on.

just isnt worth it, kit would cost more that the quad.

I belive Mickey Dunlap from FST made one, and only one, several years ago....

you would need a new cylinder too and head and all so the water could run through it.

Most of the complications are in the head anyways. Sure, the cylinder gets hot, but it's the head and the valves that really get hot as the exhaust gasses get pushed out. As such, you need water jackets around the exhaust port.

You can't have a water-cooled cylinder but an air-cooled head. In reality, the cylinder is easy, because of the sleeve. You could just push the sleeve out, cut some water passages, and press a new sleeve in. It's the HEAD that gets complicated, you would need to cast a whole new head to include water jackets, you couldn't just cut and/or drill them in the stock head.

I more or less figured on a whole top end like being able to convert the 450 top to a 400. It was just a thought. The nice part about it would be being able to make the 400 a 450 with more room for bores.
but i guess it would be easier to just drop the 450 motor into the frame.

If you put a 450r motor into a 400ex frame, what would the stock 450r bike have that you still would not have on your hybrid 400ex?
I guess I am asking because I don't know enough about them. Why would someone go through the trouble instead of just getting the 450r?

you need to swap the radiator, electronics, sometimes oil cooler.

I did it because I can ride my 400ex chassis better the the trx450r chassis.

I personally have ridden both the 400 and the 450. I like the geometry of the 400 much better. It may be due to my hieght and wieght but i just like the 400's feel.
