ok a few weeks ago i snapped the top bolt putting a case saver on my quad...so we drilled a little of it out..and re tapped it...well while riding today the bolt decides to come out...and take the threads with it....:(

i need to know how deep that hole is...or at least how long the original bolt was..i know the two bolts for the saver are two different sizes...im not sure if the top is the longer one or the bottom, i just need to know exactly how deep the top bolt hole is so i can redrill it, and not risk drilling into the case...that would suck...

thanks for anyone who knows

any ideas welcome also

just look at your old bolt and how far it should stick in... that should give you some idea. and to fix the hole just use a heli-coil.

he lost the bolt bonehead... lol jk man, to let you know the top bolt was the longer one. you can probly just rethread it in a bigger size but then ur gonna have to find a new bolt. shouldnt be too hard. put some loc-tite 290 on it cause mine vibrated their way outta the lil hole. good luck!

You say your 400 is still under warranty... Maybe Honda can do something about that.

sorry i have a 300ex.. duh lol the bolts are the same length on mine.. but if you get it fixed with a helicoil it will be good as new and like you said loctite 290 it will never come out.

this sucks...ill just weld it on haha jk

but the heli coil idea sounds good...i thought about it but i didnt think they made them that small....someone point me in the right direction

Just stick something thin and long in the hole like a needle or something to see how deep it is.

To fix it right, you need to E-Z-out the rest of that broken bolt out of the hole and then heli-coil it. Do it that way and you should never have to worry about it again.

Yeah you need to get the rest of the bolt out. a heli-coil will be just fine you can get them any size and be carefull and not break the E-Z out then you will be screwed.

im pretty sure those bolts are 6mm. not sure what thread pitch though. and the heli-coil comes with a tap in the kit and a drill bit you have to drill out the hole bigger tap it then insert the heli-coil and its fixed.

they were 10 mm i believe cant remember...well i decided to give the heli coil a shot...but i decided to go from a metric to a standard...1/4 inch...so i drilled it out..and tapped the hole to a 3/8? i think cant remember...ive been drinking a little...anyways....the heli coil just threads in there...and bam..brand new threads...pretty cool...I almost bought the kit...but the inserts were my best bet..i made the tool to put them in...hopefully itll hold...if not...i dunno...i cant drill it out any more..lol
