I put my stock pipe back on and started it up. It was idleing and then the I saw the head pipe glowing red. What would cause this?

a glowing header is normal. now, that does not mean your jetting is right but it isn't saying your jetting is way off either.

it is only normal if it is not really bright and u r only noticing it at night. otherwise ur bike is running hot, which would indidcat a lean condition

The jets are main 122 and pilot 38. The stock jets are main 125 and pilot 35.

I am at stock. The only thing I have on it know is a k&n filter.

well then, u r lean. if u r going to keep the airbox lid on, u will be ok with stock jetting. so go back to that and start from there. if u r planning on running it with the lid off, then u will prolly want to go to like a 127 main, or something like that. the pilot, i would leave stock. i dunno why it is that much richer than stock. thats the size of a 400ex pilot. tooo rich. go back to stock and u should be all better

If I put the stock main back on and leave the 38 pilot should I be ok? The stock pilot is a 35. The stock main is a 125. I am going to put my full exhaust back on soon.

ya u will be, but u will be rich off the bottom...and if u put a pipe on it, u will need to go richer still.

My bike at idle in the dim lite of most arena tracks glows a bit.. Once you get moving it should go away.. If you took your lid off why a smaller jet??

I changed my main back to a 125 but my pilot is still a 38

If your talking about the stock headpipe on your 250X you are lean. A stock headpipe is steel, and require a lot of heat to glow red.

Morfy your bike you mean two wheels? Most stock dirt bikes have Titanium head pipes which will glow a lot easier.

I'm not talking about a dirtbike. I'm talking about a 1987 Honda TRX250X Fourtrax.

Well go back and read the post, because I was talking about your 250x headpipe. You are lean, it is not normal on a steel headpipe.

Okay, let's do this the right way.

What mods are you running or are planning to run? What's the temperature there? What's your elevation? Why did you go to a leaner main jet when you put on a K&N filter?

it sounds as you are lean. What is the color of the plug? I use 127 in my 200x, and that is almost spot on, you are too lean. the plug electode should be a cardboard brown color, white its lean, black its hot. I put my jetting alittle rich as it runs cooler, but does foul plugs some.

I'm running a dg pipe, K&N filter with airbox lid on, and a 125 main jet. Its ranges from 30F to 65F. I do not know the color of the plug but will check that on sunday because I will not be home tomorrow.

I'd probably go up to a 130 main or possibly larger and richen up your needle also.
